Morgantown Ladies
Sara Bird, 29, was raised in Randolph Co. and has lived all but a few months of her life in W.Va. She recently graduated from WVU College of Law, successfully passed her bar examination, and will be sworn in as West Virginia's newest lesbian activist lawyer later this month. Sara is dedicated to protecting the civil liberties of all West Virginians. Among the many issues Sara takes on, marriage equality in West Virginia takes top priority. In fact, she turned down a dream job as a gay rights attorney in Durham, NC to stay in West Virginia and fight the good fight here.
Although she grew up in rural West Virginia, Sara had many positive role models who encouraged her to be proud of who she is and to be a true mountaineer. Mountaineers are always free and Sara was raised to believe that motto applies to everyone, not just the privileged. After dropping out of high school, Sara got her GED and enrolled at WVU where she received a BA in History. Sara briefly attended graduate school to study social work, but decided to go a different route and obtain a law degree.
As a recent law school graduate, Sara is currently seeking employment as a public interest attorney; she refuses to sell out and work at just any law office. She is interested only in working for those who otherwise have no access to justice: the poor and oppressed. Sara aspires to be a real change-maker in West Virginia and currently sits on the boards of WVFREE, West Virginia's sole reproductive rights organization, and the ACLU of West Virginia. Sara is also a member of the National Lawyer's Guild, Highlands Conservancy, Human Rights Campaign, and the National Organization for Women.
Sara currently lives in Morgantown with her ridiculously adorable 7 year old shephard mix, Jubile (pronounced Jubal). When she's not drafting legal briefs or staging protests, Sara likes to run, hike, swim, play soccer, play guitar, volunteer, and hang out with her amazing friends.
I am 25 years old and a junior at West Virginia University... I enjoy photography... Mostly I enjoy taking and viewing black and white photographs of people but I really like all kinds of art... I have 13 tattoos and see no reason to stop there... Eventually it will consume me... I've pierced myself a few times but usually take the jewelry out after a little while... I never got into the piercings like I did with the ink... I have been in the ARMY, been a missionary, driven an 18 wheeler, worked in a home for troubled children and worked as a photographer... And now I’ve finally decided it was time to give college a go... I enjoy celtic music, jazz, techno (especially trance) and gothic... My CD collection, while small, is quite eclectic... I'm also a rather big dork for I love me some Dungeons & Dragons... I also like Magic: the gathering... They both pretty much rock my world... Writing is a passion of mine (poetry, stories and screenplays). And I say 'screenplays' in the loosest sense of the term. I write them, read them, smile, then put them on my hard drive never to be removed again. I suppose I just enjoy the writing process, because I've never really put much effort into taking them any further. Perhaps I'm afraid of the rejection... I've been doing some form of martial arts since I was 8. What I have been taking for years and years is a freestyle martial arts. (Blending several forms into one... Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Ju Jit Su, Moi Tai)

I recently graduated from Shepherd University with a degree in English and Women's Studies. My passions are acting and writing. Now that I'm done with school, I dream of joining a traveling Shakespeare theater company, learning Chinese, and finally using my handcuffs. Currently, I waitress and work at a library part-time. coffee break tense
staring
cracks in your wall
sea green
you peel a stanza
from my skin
red-lipped from your sting
and a circular pattern
on my jeans
your note:
i'll leave my hook
in your heart
and when you've
